This aint no Donald Duck

I'm getting really sick of product placements in films.
Later this month when you take the fam to see the Lemony Snicket film guess who you will see? No, not Donald Duck. The AFLAC duck. Puhhhhlease. What is the connection you ask? Well the film is about 'unfortunate events' and AFLAC is an insurance company. Yeah, I see it too, yup, makes perfect sense.

I'd seen the AFLAC ad on TV a night or two ago...thought it was pretty funny...for a commercial. However, I agree that product placement has gone a bit far in the past few years. For me, it's fine to see recognizable products in a movie as long as they are there to serve a logical purpose and aren't totally in your face. Far too often it seems we find a character that's holding a can of Pepsi with a sort of awkward air about him...tilting the can at just the right angle so it can be recognized for what it is.

Come on people! If it's costing so much to make a movie that you have to sink to the depths of blatant product placement to make ends meet, then you've got problems.

At least there's no AFLAC quacking in the film...at least not yet. When products start taking active roles in movies, then we've definitely gone Waaaay too far...
