Million Dollar Baby

I finally got around to seeing 'Million Dollar Baby' just yesterday afternoon and I'm glad I did. Tonight it won 4 Oscars including best picture and director. It deserved it. Very good film. If you haven't seen it, take a trip to the theatre and treat yourself. You won't regret it. Oh, and it has Gaelic in it. That might be enough to get my Dad out to see it. Mo Guishle!

OK...so honestly though, what is the draw on this one? Granted, I've only seen one preview for it, but from what I saw, it doesn't seem like it deserves the hype. Maybe it's because I really don't enjoy Hillary Swank as an actress and I feel that Clint has overused his time in front of the camera, at least as far as the kinds of roles he's taken the past few years.

In any case, I'm not buying the plot as I'm seeing it from the previews and from the one "spoiler" somebody muttered, it seems like they're going for shock treatment and heartstring pulls in order to try and validate themselves.

I could be way off base, but I honestly had no intention of even renting this one based on what I know about it so I was very confused to see it get the Oscar attention it did (true I don't always agree with the Oscar voting, but I can usually understand their reasoning).

Anyway, just wanted to chime in.

I think it was worth seeing. It didn't 'feel' manipulative to me and I enjoyed the performances by Clint, Morgan and Hillary. Did it deserve best pic and director etc.? Hmmm, probably not. But, then again, look what it was going up against!
